ATLANTA (Oct. 25, 2019) – As North American Properties (NAP) continues transforming Colony Square into Midtown’s Living Room, the firm today announced American Barber Shop will join the mixed-use destination’s service-focused retail lineup.
“At Colony Square, we are designing a merchandising mix that caters to Midtown’s urbanite population,” said Adam Schwegman, senior vice president of leasing at NAP. “Our team is highly focused on filling in the gaps in Midtown’s retail landscape, and bringing office workers, residents and visitors a hub of hospitality-inspired, neighborhood services. We look forward to announcing additional service-focused retailers in the near future.”
American Barber, a locally owned barbershop where the quality service of yesteryear meets modern amenities in a welcoming setting, will open its seventh Georgia location at Colony Square in spring 2020. Known for its haircuts and hot shaves for men, American Barber has redefined the barbershop experience and serves more than 40,000 return customers each month. Its new location in Midtown will operate seven days a week and feature eight to ten chairs.
“The modern man is tired of quick, chain cut and shave shops. At American Barber, we offer timely yet relaxing services for our customers so they can keep their days on track,” said Choman Ali, founder and owner of American Barber Shop. “Our new location at Colony Square will provide an opportunity for workers to take a 30-minute vacation during their lunch break or before a big meeting to ensure they look and feel their best.”
Colony Square is home to several other service-focused concepts. Earlier this year, Colony Square celebrated the reopening of Chick-fil-A, Starbucks and SunTrust. Steve Palmer’s new on-the-go sushi restaurant Sukoshi also welcomed its first guests in September. Openings this fall include Freshii, a healthy fast-casual eatery, and the return of hometown favorite Moe’s Southwest Grill.
Also included in the service-focused strategy is Blank Label, a Boston-based custom-tailored men’s clothing store, which opened its first Atlanta location at the mixed-use destination in 2017. Blank Label’s one-on-one fitting and styling products range from polos to quilted vests to four-season suits and more, including the recently added premium, European-milled shirt and suiting fabrics. The brand is located in Building 400 in Suite 1220 and takes appointments Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
A critical element of Colony Square’s service-focused strategy is its full-time Concierge, which will anchor the 15,000-square-foot Plaza and open in 2020. Colony Square’s Concierge will run the programming at the mixed-use development like a resort. The team of ExperienceMakersä, a term trademarked by NAP to describe its Ritz-Carlton-trained employees, is responsible for hosting 200+ community events each year and creating elevated experiences for guests that range from wedding proposals to work happy hours to birthday surprises and more.
To enhance connectivity and convenience, Colony Square recently opened a new Loop Lounge with rideshare seating along Peachtree Street. The Midtown destination also features a bike valet, the Relay Bike Share service, and 24/7 TransitScreens detailing the availability and timing of the two walkable MARTA stations as well as ride-share services. In addition, The Grove, an urban park along the 14th Street corridor, opened over the summer, providing a new, shaded gathering place complete with ample seating to soak up Midtown’s vibe.
Situated at the heart of the Midtown district, Colony Square is within a 15-minute walk for 72,000 daytime workers, 20,000 residents and six million annual visitors. The development is also currently home to 3,400 office workers, with an additional 600 expected following the completion of Buildings 300 and 500, as well as more than 800 retail and restaurant employees.
NAP is turning the historic mixed-use development inside out by reconfiguring its dense, insular design into an open and active pedestrian environment that enhances connectivity with Midtown’s streetscape. Upon completion, Colony Square will be home to 160,000 square feet of retail, dining and entertainment space, 940,000 square feet of office space, a 466-room W Hotel and 262 upscale residences.
